Windlass and Anchor
Sail La Vie came with one retrieve foot switch. I added another foot switch to lower the anchor and the chain.
To help both lowering and retrieving the anchor I installed wired remote switch using 85 Amp contact relays placed close to the windlass motor behind the V-birth head panel.
The remote switch is a 4" portable box with a toggle switch labeled up and down. I used 1/4" flexible microphone wire with 24 gauge stranded wire inside to energize the 12 VDC relay coils.
The switch cord is 30 feet long. It allows me to walk from the cockpit to the windlass. I have painted the last 5 feet of the chain with white paint. When retrieving from the cockpit and I see the white paint I know that the anchor is now out of the water.
I walk to the bow and use the foot switch to bring in the last 5 feet of the chain.
I have installed a roller just below the furler to help guide the anchor without damaging the furler.
